Proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Telecom Cook Islands is proud to get behind the Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation for their 2014 Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.
Breast Cancer is increasingly affecting more and more of us throughout the world including us here in the Cook Islands. Having the Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation working with and supporting those in our community who are dealing with and are affected by breast cancer is a great service to the people of the Cook Islands and we are so glad to be supporting them with an all new mobile text donation service.
We encourage all Cook Islanders to get behind this campaign to text your $3 donation by sending PINK CI to 946. All proceeds go to the foundation and the mobile text donation service will be active until the end of the month.

Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation Press Release

In a first for the Cook Islands, people who want to give money to the Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation this year, will be able to text their donation.

In an arrangement made between the President of the local Breast Cancer Foundation – Jaewynn McKay and Telecom CEO John Proctor– if you text PINK CI to 946, you will make a $3 donation. The money will be charged to your telecom account or deducted from the prepay balance and passed on to the foundation in its entirety.

October is Breast Cancer month throughout the world, a time to raise awareness about Breast Cancer and to encourage women, those aged over 40 in particular, to have a mammogram.

There will also be a street appeal this Friday with collectors out and about and a stall in front of the Westpac Bank in Avarua. Collectors and a stall will also be at the Punanga Nui market on Saturday morning. Collectors will be clearly identified – they will be wearing tops similar to the ones worn by these little helpers last Saturday – and they will have the Breast Cancer pink buckets.

The Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation wants to thank everyone who has donated to this year’s appeal already and those who will, and the foundation has a big thank you for the Telecom people who have made the text donation facility possible.

“We are very pleased to be able to support such a good cause as Breast Cancer Awareness and the Cook Islands Breast Cancer Foundation – the ability to do this is just one of the many capabilities that having a 3G mobile network allows” said John Proctor.

Donations make it possible for the foundation to support the screening of Cook Islands women, to provide early detection of this disease which is so devastating for our women folk; and in particular the money helps to bring women from the outer islands to Rarotonga for screening.
