Telecom Cook Islands applauds Motor Centre
11.10.2012
“Any company taking steps towards promoting road safety by handing out 850 free helmets to the public should be seen as a community leader” says Sales and Marketing manager Damien Beddoes. “Road safety is an important topic and we need to educate our country on how important it is. The overwhelming reaction from the public last Wednesday indicates that there is a firm starting block to increase public awareness, and maybe revisit the legislation on helmets.”
At the beginning of the year Telecom Cook Islands took the initiative on road safety by offering a helmet to all employees, free of charge. We pride ourselves in supporting helmet-wearing and hope to influence others. Our supplier is The Motor Centre and we will continue this relationship. We also send a challenge to other businesses to purchase helmets for your employees and keep our people safe on the road.
The Cook Islands government passed legislation to make the helmet-wearing compulsory in 2008 and then cancelled the law due to a public petition. Telecom is concerned about the rising numbers of fatalities and accidents on our roads and would like to see more people wearing helmets and more education on road safety for our tourists and Cook Islands People.
Telecom Cook Islands would like to officially thank the Motor Centre for its generous contribution to keeping our people safe.
